OUR SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES

We believe it is our responsibility to our planet to be as low-impact, NATURAL and sustainable as possible, we’ve worked hard and are very proud of the results of our efforts.

Raw Materials

All of the materials used in our candles and apothecary line are from sustainable and renewable sources, leaving a very low carbon footprint. These materials are categorized in our recyclable glass vessels and renewable, environmentally low-impact fragrances.

We have also made an effort to have a standard of using plant-based and natural raw materials anywhere we can in our raw materials. This is categorized in our plant-based wax and raw cotton wicks, and certified organic essential oils. We work very hard to find and combine the highest quality natural and sustainably sourced ingredients.

We strive to be as absolutely natural as we can be, but we also want our products to work. If a synthetic ingredient is necessary in a specific instance, we make sure it’s thoroughly safety vetted and approved.

Partnership with Sustainable Ecuadorian Palo Santo Farm and Reforestation Project.

Our efforts to source only sustainable and naturally dead Palo Santo (Bursera Garvenolens) from a local Ecuadorian farm was one of our most impactful additions to La Botica in 2019. We partnered with a family owned Ecuadorian farm that recollects (picking up/gathering) naturally dead laying Palo Santo, which is the sustainable way of picking Palo Santo, and no trees are cut or damaged in the process. This farm completes reforestation of Palo Santo trees throughout their communities in Ecuador and these are protective forests to prevent logging, invasions or damage and provides social and economic wealth to the people of these communities. As of 2019 the proceeds of sustainable companies such as La Botica has helped plant 4000 Palo Santo trees and other native species in 2019 alone. We project another 5000 to be reforested by the end of 2020.

Zero-Waste Production

Our production studio in Long Island City, NY is actively zero-waste. Our small run approach to producing our candle and clothing line allows us to use only what is needed in every run, and any components and materials that are normally considered unusable by manufactures, we donate back to local makers who can re-purpose them in their own spaces.

Sustainable Collections

We believe that sustainability is key to the production of our collections. All of our patterns and samples are designed in our Queens studio in New York, then manufactured in Los Angeles, CA ensuring fair trade, ethical and safe work environments. All of our clothing materials are organic 100% cotton harvested in the US and plant-based luxury modal so you can feel good about what you wear.

Responsible Packaging

We make an effort to be recyclable and environmentally responsible where-ever possible in our packaging. Our candle and palo santo boxes are recyclable using 100% recycled paper.

Finally, our shipping boxes are 100% recyclable and printed in the US. Our fill is eco (Biodegradable) cushion wrap in which allows us to further our responsible packaging efforts.

We have more sustainable efforts we are implementing as our company grows, our goal is to become 100% sustainable and have transparency in our environmental efforts which we will always extend to our La Boticá familia.
