SUSTAINABILITY

Our connection to the Dominican Republic is the differentiator for our brand, where we work the closest to give back, support, and elevate local Dominican communities. Allowing the authenticity of the island to shine through our products, and celebrate the vibrance and rich culture within.

We put sustainability at the forefront of our practices, whether it be through a commitment to the Amazon rainforest, ingredients sourced from the Dominican Republic, or packaging that is recyclable or refillable.

We are dedicated to elevating the Dominican Republic, it’s people, culture, and environment. Through our support of local farms and sustainable initiatives, La Botica is also playing an integral role in the preservation of the Dominican Republic’s unique tropical environment. We strive to remain mindful, continue to enrich local communities and ensure sustainable practices.

As part of our ethos, we strive to create a conscious partnership between our brand and the environment. We continuously research and develop new ways to improve our products and processes using sustainable materials, organic ingredients, and recyclable packaging. We are constantly striving for 100% sustainability.

  • We source a majority of our ingredients from the Dominican Republic and use unique Dominican ingredients such as Bitter Orange, Dominican Coconut, and Cacao Butter from San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic. Our team has forged a partnership with a company of fair trade subtropical farms to make sure our ingredients are ethically sourced from sustainable practices.

Through its fair trade sourcing process, La Botica is helping small-scale producers access markets they might not otherwise have. We partnered with co-operatives of farmers and communities to manufacture ingredients for our range. Since 2021, we have established investment in the community and elevated the lives of locals. Our latest project in the Barahona province, Dominican Republic has provided fair trade wages to handcraft our plantain bags.

By supporting these farmers, La Botica is allowing them to earn a living and better their lives by providing them with economic empowerment and stability. In addition, supporting fair trade ingredients plays an important role in preserving the environment, since farmers are using sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices to grow and harvest their ingredients.

The Amazon rainforest is where we source many of our raw seed oils including; Maracujá, Tucuma Butter, Patauá, Pequi, and other exotic ingredients. The extraction and use of these ingredients are done in a manner that is both sustainable and transparent. Working only with fair trade farms and a Brazilian, female-owned source - we can ensure that practices promote the preservation of the environment, foster local economies, and support indigenous cultures.

Additionally, La Botica is committed to preserving the Amazon Rainforest and ethical sourcing from that region. We recognize that the Amazon is a unique ecological system in which its habitats and tribal communities are reliant upon each other for their well-being. Because of this, we take extra steps to ensure that the plants and agricultural resources found in the Amazon are ethically and sustainably sourced. We believe that protecting wildlife and preserving the Amazon is essential to our values, and essential to preserving the environment of this unique ecological system.

We are firmly rooted in supporting and developing the local communities we work with, putting in place strategies to ensure better socioeconomic opportunities, investing in local initiatives, and donating a percentage of every product sold to The Dream Project in the Dominican Republic.

  • We work on creating sustainable packaging and offering a waste-free approach for our customer experience. Our current FSC-certified boxes are 100% recyclable and every product includes a 100% cotton dust bag.

Our sustainability efforts began when we adopted FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper for packaging. FSC paper is made of responsibly harvested wood fiber, meaning it’s more environmentally friendly than standard paper. We recognized that shifting to FSC paper was a great way to reduce environmental impact by cutting down on the number of trees used in the production process.

We also mitigate our plastic packaging by switching to sustainable alternatives such as paper and biopolymers. To further reduce our carbon footprint, we have sought to utilize responsible material sources and are investigating sustainable paper that could be used for product packaging in the future. In addition to this, we are committed to using only essential materials that follow the principles where materials are reused, reduce, recycle, and remanufactured.

We recognize that there is still a long way to go in terms of improving sustainability standards throughout the industry. That’s why we are constantly pushing ourselves and the entire industry to move towards circularity and ethical sourcing practices. We believe that it is essential for brands to be actively engaged in protecting our environment and creating truly sustainable and ethical products.

We continually strive to be an ethical and environmentally conscious brand, advocating for sustainable solutions that are rooted in culture and respect for the environment, empowering our beloved Dominican Republic.

  • All of our fragrances are clean and free from phthalates, parabens, and artificial colorants. Our Eau De Parfums are composed of organic sugar cane alcohol, essential oils, and safe synthetics sourced responsibly and consciously.

Our hand-casted concrete candles are made in-house, in our studio in Long Island City, New York. The concrete that the candles are cast in is made with a combination of recycled materials including quartz and other natural stone powders. This process is highly sustainable since fewer new materials are needed. The concrete that is used for the candles is cured through a natural process, and all of the materials used are from renewable sources. Our vessels are reinforced with organic hemp fibers.

Each of the candles is made with 100% coconut wax and RSPO palm wax. RSPO palm wax is sustainably sourced from palm oil farms that are certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). RSPO-certified palm oil is produced in an environmentally sound, socially beneficial, and economically viable manner. It is grown in accordance with stringent social and environmental standards set by the RSPO and certified to be free from deforestation, land grabbing, and exploitation of local communities.

We commit to ethical sourcing and social responsibility. We believe in giving back to our environment and to the communities that support us.
